Tell them who you are and where you’re from
The first step of speaking clearly to your target audience is to make sure they know who you are.
Why are you someone who can be trusted in this industry? What qualifies you to speak into their needs? And are you more than just a faceless company?
Showing yourself to be an authority in your area, as well as a real person who they can trust, is crucial here.
Identify the problem you solve
Show that you understand the challenges that your audience faces by identifying with them.
You’ll know that you’re speaking clearly to your target audience when you create content which makes them say “that’s exactly how I feel!”.
Accurately describing the problems that your audience faces and showing empathy with their situation is crucial to showing that you have a product which meets their needs. .
Introduce how your solution benefits the target audience
Now that you’ve identified the problem faced by your target audience, you can introduce how your product or service is the solution.
A key element of speaking clearly to your target audience is to be up-front about the fact that you are confident in what you can offer to them.
There’s no point beating around the bush here for fear of looking too ‘salesy’: be confident – you have something which will really help them!
Outline the solutions you offer
Now it’s time to give some details.
What are the solutions that you offer? Explain more fully how your product or service solves the problem that your audience is facing.
Go back to the examples you shared in step two of how the problem they face affects them, and now describe how your product addresses those challenges and offers unique solutions that they can’t find elsewhere.
Highlight the gains or value you provide
What will the results be when your audience uses the products or service that you offer?
You’ve already identified with the problems that they’re facing and how you can help, so now it’s time to paint a picture of how their lives would look different if your product was meeting their needs.
What will the consequences be when they use your product or service? Spell it out for them, give examples, and show them how with your help, their daily life will be transformed.
Remind the audience of your call-to-action
Speaking clearly to your target audience is all about walking them through the whole process of realising they need your product, and then showing them how they can go about engaging with it.
Giving a practical next step is called a call-to-action, often abbreviated to CTA.
It’s absolutely crucial to be clear here. What do you want them to do next?
It might be pointing them to a contact page, a signup link, or a digital resource.
Whatever your CTA is, you need to signpost it very clearly and make sure that they have everything they need to get there.
Don’t just tell them to contact you, make sure that the link to your contact page is right there so that they don’t have to search for it.
Making it as easy as possible for them to engage with your business is key to smoothing out the customer journey and making sure these potential leads turn into actual customers.
Reiterate who you are and what you do
It might seem strange to loop back to the first step here, but it’s actually a key component of speaking clearly to your target audience to remind them why your business is the one they should use to address the problem they’re facing.
Hopefully you’ll have convinced them already that the product or service that you offer is what they need.
They might now be thinking, ‘I wonder if I should look at other businesses who offer this solution?’.
Reiterating at this point why your business is uniquely qualified to meet their needs at this point will help to illustrate why they don’t need to look elsewhere.
Share your experience, expertise and even customer reviews here to demonstrate that you are the perfect solution to their problem.
