In June 2019, the Government passed legislation to reduce the UK’s net emissions of greenhouse gases to nothing by 2050. Doing so would make the UK a ‘net zero’ emitter. “Carbon neutrality is a state of net-zero carbon dioxide emissions. This can be achieved by balancing emissions of carbon dioxide with its removal or by eliminating emissions from society”.

Why we tell you this, is because Barnsley Council have set out a plan to make the borough carbon neutral by 2045T via the Net Zero Accelerator, which is a project offering free, intensive support to local businesses that will also raise awareness of the climate emergency.

With our background in events management and project delivery, Ask Zoe were the ideal partner to help build and implement a strategy for Net Zero Barnsley. The project was through a series of roadshows across the area. Supporting these in practical ways was only part of what we were asked to do.

Examples of what we did to support this project were:

1. A Facebook live video introducing each event, guiding visitors to the venue and telling them what to expect was an important step to bring Net Zero to people new to the concept.

2. Video case studies built a rapport with the clients as well as being another way to engage with those starting their journey to carbon reduction.

3. We have also been planning and delivering workshops for the 36 Barnsley businesses who have joined the Net Zero Accelerator over the Spring.

Within Ask Zoe we have been proactive in promoting car sharing and co-working spaces in our home at The Business Village. We are also in the process of moving to an electric vehicle, what else but a Renault Zoe.

What this all adds up to is the reason why we became Ask Zoe, taking our skill set and using it to help people and businesses. We have all had to adapt and evolve over the last two years, it hit me as much as anyone, and as a consultant, speaker, and strategist, who specialises in business development, events, and marketing strategies I needed to become my own best customer to avoid the struggle, generate ideas and grow. We know that climate change is a reality, and that it is starting to impact our lives.

To build a sustainable business, in all senses of the word, business into the middle of the 21st Century we all need to be aware of the demands that changing the way we live, travel and work will place on us.
